Women in Security: Employee Feature

At IntercomLux we strongly believe in providing our employees with equal opportunities and truly feel that the more diverse our company is, the stronger our team, culture and overall company will be. We are always trying to further the industry in which we operate in and innovate both externally and internally.

We had the opportunity to interview one of our fantastic female security guards in honour of Women’s History Month. Navpreet is one of our full-time employees at IntercomLux. Beginning as a Security Guard and receiving a promotion to Supervisor within her first year at the company – her future is bright and full of opportunity with IntercomLux. Check out our interview with her to learn her advice and key takeaways that she’s garnered from the security industry, thus far!

How long has Navpreet been with IntercomLux Security?

Navpreet has been with the company for “just over one year” at the time of this interview.

What motivated Navpreet to join the security industry?

Navpreet’s motivation to join the industry stemmed from her desire to have a job that allowed her to help people. Since joining the industry, “her confidence has increased, her customer service skills are constantly being utilized, she has gained a very transferable and in-demand skill-set and she is always helping people” – from clients to internal employees and everything in between, Navpreet is first and foremost always lending a hand and helping where she can.

What unique traits does Navpreet, and women in general, bring to the security industry?

While there are many benefits to having women in the very male-dominated security industry Navpreet says the unique traits that women bring are: “women put so much into what they do and they work so hard. Women bring compassion and kindness to a male-dominated industry and a new way of thinking.”

How would she describe IntercomLux and its management style?

IntercomLux is always striving to be better, stronger and more efficient for the benefit of its employees. When asked how she would describe IntercomLux, one of the biggest contributing factors to the company’s success is “how much senior leadership and management listen to all employees” – two-way communication in any company or organization is key and IntercomLux is a firm believer in garnering feedback, ideas and opinions on everything from as many stakeholders as possible.

Another one of Navpreet’s most-appreciated influences from IntercomLux and its management team is that “the company hires and promotes from within, whenever possible” – providing more development, advancement and rewarding opportunities for current employees.

What is a piece of advice you would pass onto other women looking to join the security industry?

The piece of advice Navpreet would give to women looking to enter the security industry is, “women do not need to be scared to enter the industry or express themselves. They are capable and they do not to feel that they are less than anyone else.”

What is the most rewarding thing about working in the security industry, for you?

“The security industry is never going to slow down – it’s completely essential to so many businesses and industries,” Navpreet says. Plus, she mentioned that every skill she has learned thus far is extremely transferable and could benefit her in many different careers and lines of work in the future.

Thank you to Navpreet for this fantastic interview and for, hopefully, providing women looking to join the security industry with further inspiration and motivation.
