IntercomLux’s 2023 Security Outlook

IntercomLux’s 2023 Security Outlook

2022 was the quite the year. With the wind-down of COVID-19 restrictions and regulations, we saw a resurgence in so many segments across numerous industries – all posing significant risks, and opportunities, for security. As security experts operating in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, we have a unique opportunity to dissect day-to-day occurrences, develop forecasting, determine trends, and provide our clients with on-the-ground knowledge of what’s to come for security as we head into a new year. On the brink of a recession, security will be more important than ever this year, and – as always – we maintain our clients’ safety and security as our number one priority. This year, we wanted to give you a peek into where we believe the industry is headed in 2023.

Technology & Security

As technology continues to play an integral role in the evolution of so many industries, we believe that the use of technology will only continue to grow within the security industry. While in-person security will remain an important piece of any organization’s security arsenal, the integration of technology will enable businesses to bolster their security plans and ensure they’re ready for anything. As cybersecurity needs continue to skyrocket, the need for cybersecurity plans and insurance will become an increasingly important piece to any fulsome security strategy. With more and more tools available on the market, including drones, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and more, we will continue to see businesses add these to their integrated security offering. While technology has so many benefits in mitigating security risks, human-to-human interaction is more important than ever and having a team of customer service-oriented security professionals to complement existing technology-driven security systems is what many of our clients are leaning into. Additionally, having a security team that understands the pitfalls and risks that come with technology will remain a high priority as organizations manage end-user’s concerns, like their privacy, tech malfunctions, and other violations.

Risk Management

As we head into a challenging economic climate, risk management is top of mind for many organizations. Whether an organization is managing mass lay-offs, varying political perspectives, or cost constraints, security is paramount and will play a major role in keeping internal and external stakeholders safe and secure. With that, our team of security experts puts substantial focus on risk analysis and management to ensure our clients are prepared for anything with a proactive security approach. During any risk assessment that we offer to all new and existing clients, we encourage our clients to take a deep dive to understand the environment in which their business operates in, identify potential risks, and take the proper steps to mitigate as much as possible, equating to peace of mind whether those risks actualize or don’t.

Labour Market Shortages

The labour market across all industries is still feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, with labour demand at all-time highs, while and available workers remain scarce. Many retailers will continue to see labour market shortages as we head into 2023. With increased crime rates, we anticipate security will be a priority for many organizations – especially those operating with less employees and requiring the added help of a third-party security team to ensure the safety of their people, property, and assets. As for the security industry, we also expect to see an increased demand for security professionals this year which may place even higher demand on the industry.

Customer-Oriented Security

We always strive to provide our clients with the best service possible in as many possible avenues as we can successfully deliver in. For security, this may mean providing security consultations and risk assessments, providing input on our clients’ existing business or risk environment, and determining where there are gaps or opportunities for improvement, or utilizing our expertise in other areas to help guide security decisions. Our security guards are trained to the highest calibre in retail loss prevention, black tie security, VIP / executive protection security, and are equipped with the most professional customer service tactics in the business to not only ensure your store is protected by bolster your brand and reputation through positive interactions. We strive to not only cultivate and foster a safe environment in your store but to also ensure your employees and clients have a positive experience.
